EGAR does rehome to the UK unless the dog in question is prohibited in the UK under the DDA. Prospective adoptees will be home checked before and after re-homing.

All adult EGAR dogs are vaccinated, wormed and spayed/neutered. Puppies are vaccinated and wormed, the adoptee must adhere to the contract which states that the puppy must be spayed/neutered at the proper age. Transport to the UK is usually carried out by volunteers, we do not use so called rescue transporters.
If you wish to find out more why not contact Lee, who adopted a dog from us, she can tell you how it works if you want to adopt a dog but live in the UK: l.marriott-dowding@ntlworld.com, her mobile is 07960 097431

Sam is app 3-4 years old and just HANDSOME. He is fully vacc'd, neutered and MC'd. He came via another rescue. Despite his appearance he is NOT an APBT but I will not rehome him to the UK as he could be classed as Type there and seized. He is VERY well behaved. Sam is a gentleman! He must be coming from a home as he is houstrained, he sits and gives the paw and walks quite orderly on the leash!

Celebrity Doglet! Hobo arrived in Athlone by train on Monday 25th June. It is not known where he joined the train. He was taken in by the ASPCA and then handed into the pound from where we took him in. He suffered from severe mange but this is now all healed up. Hobo has many talents one of which is being a clown, he is a delight to have around and he is a pure clown as you can see from the pictures. Hobo is fine with other dogs and has been neutered and vaccinated. Hobo would suit a family with older kids (10+) as he can be bouncy. But mostly he is well behaved and loves his toys and walks.

Rex -one word can describe him: HANDSOME! Rex is only about 1 yro, he is a prime example of his breed: easy going, friendly and eager to please. He is highly intelligent and LOVES people. He is fine with other bitches but picks and choses males with no apparent pattern. However, he does not go out of his way to be aggressive with males and does try to avoid confrontation. He is easy to train and has learnt alot hre already. Rex was a stray who came to EGAR via a member of the public. Rex will not be rehomed to the UK or NI due to the DDA

Mr. Smartie: He was thrown into a garden in Horseleap. He came to us via another rescue where he spent three days and was well looked after. He is very friendly to humans and dogs alike and is thought to either have been stolen and then dumped, or simply dumped... Mr. Smartie is a Bullterrier x and about knee high. He is app. 1 1/2 to 2 yro and house trained. He is not yet for re-homing but queries are more than welcome. Further assessment is pending.

Finley is a gem, he is very obedient and his previous owner has put alot of effort into his training. He knows Sit, Heel, Down, Come, Leave (letting go of a toy), he retrieves toys and throws them in front of your feet and then waits for the game to continue. He is safe off leash and loves his Frisbee. He will also look at you when you ask him to. Finley needs a firm but gentle hand and a no nonsense approach. He revels in attention an loves treats.

He is also very attached to a toy duck which gave many a visitors here half a heart attack as it sounds quite real! Encounters with other dogs very much depend on the reaction of the human handling him. If the human carries on as if nothing is happening then Finley will react accordingly. Finley can read his humans with no problem and he is highly intelligent. He will pick up on insecurities and then think something is wrong and he'd better bark at the new dog. He shows no problems with livestock whatsoever and goes out of his way to avoid encounters.. He is very well behaved and exceedingly well trained dog who makes a brilliant pet if certain protocol is observed. Finely is neutered, micro chipped and vaccinated.

Misty is an older lady with a heart of gold. She is app. 8 years old and a darling. She is absolutely fit and can keep up with any young dog. She is very sweet natured and loves humans. She also loves her food and to have her belly rubbed. Misty is clean in the house and very obedient. Misty has had a terrible life before she came to us and is now looking for a comfy couch. If you can give her a loving home, please call us!!

Summer came from a pound to us. She was classed as a Pit Bull in the pound but we think that she is has more Pointer than Bull Breed in her and she behaves accordingly. Summer is a "soft" girl who loves her grub and cuddles. She was petrified when she arrived here (many thanks to Caroline who volunteered time and petrol to do the run!) and it took us a couple of days until she no longer had her tail between her legs. She is roughly 18 months old and loves people, she always wants to be with them and makes it very clear that she is no longer terrified.

She wags her tail and is always ready for a walk. However, she is wary when she meets new people but this quickly changes once she knows them. She needs an active home with perhaps older children as she is a strong dog. She is well behaved on the leash and has basic obedience but would greatly benefit from obedience classes. She is wormed and vacc'd and will be spayed before re-homing. This was not yet done as she came into heat after arriving here. We do not know what back round she came from but she was very thin and afraid of being touched. Summer has most beautiful eyes and a very soft coat, she moves with grace and elegance. However, Summer is not to be re-homed to other dogs as she reacts very frightened and nearly hysterical to them. She needs a gentle hand to teach her and I am sure she will come around soon.
